Team Ireland Head off to Italy to Compete in the International Olympiad Programming Competition

Team Ireland - Competition Day1There was great excitement on day one of the International Olympiad in Informatics 2012 (IOI) when the winners of the All-Ireland Programming Olympiad arrived in Lake Garda, Italy to compete in the World finals. The highly competitive International Olympiad Competition takes place over 7 days with young second level students from around the World. 

 Representing Ireland is Richard Tynan (age 17), Conor Flynn (age 17), Abdullah Mohammad (age 17) and Maciej Goszczycki (age 15).  These students competed and won the All Ireland competition, held in the School of Computing, DCU and sponsored by Fidelity Investments during the summer.  Students completed programming challenges over a four hour period with the first four students to finish qualifying for the all expenses paid trip to Italy!

The schedule for the AIPO 2013 competition will revert back to the old time-line with the first round of the competition held on-line in December and the national competition at DCU in early February 2013.
